And this year successfully protected important bat shelters
The 2022 summer conservation has been successfully completed and thanks to the volunteers who joined our initiative, we have been able to provide security for mother bats and their young. Important colonies in the territories of Kresna and Ognyanovo were visited. We managed to introduce tourists, locals and volunteers to this important period for bats and also to tell them interesting facts.
Guarding of important bat colonies
From 15th of may to 30th June is one of the most important periods of the female bat’s life. This is the moment when their young are born. Until the cubs grow up and become independent, they are completely dependent on their mothers. During this period they are very vulnerable, and their shelters are often vandalized. For this reason, the Science of Nature Foundation, together with volunteers, will again visit some of the most important bat shelters. Day of Natura 2000 and Bats
On May 21 the team of Science for Nature celebrated the European Natura 2000 Day and Bats in the Sofia Zoo. The event was welcomed by young and old, who managed to ask their questions and to learn many interesting facts. The youngest ones took part in the game Mysteries of the Browny bat, through which they learned interesting facts about flying mammals. We thank the Sofia Zoo for their hospitality and assistance in organizing this event. We also thank all the visitors for making our day even sunnier and full of smiles.
